Mack's team-oriented work environment engages employees in operational policy creation through employee committees that suggest new ideas to senior management. Mack shares its success with employees by reinvesting profits into its facilities and further growth of the business. Employees also receive a holiday bonus based on profits.
There are no designated parking spaces at Mack. Employees are evaluated periodically in accordance with the company policy that requires regular discussions between managers and employees about performance. Employee forums and employee satisfaction surveys are also conducted. Other incentives include regularly scheduled outings for employees and their families, as well as special events, like the four-day all-expense-paid trip to Disney World for all employees and their immediate families to celebrate Mack's 75th anniversary.
Mack is also committed to the health and welfare of its employees, and has built an impressive wellness center for employees and their families to use at no charge. The facility includes a squash court, a racquetball court, weight-related and toning equipment, treadmills, lifecycles and an aerobics room. Mack also has an on-site nurse practitioner who develops and implements many wellness initiatives.
Another way in which Mack creates a positive work environment is through its quarterly housekeeping inspections. Conducted by an employee committee composed of members from all Mack divisions, the inspections are unannounced except for the final one of the year. All plants are included in the competition. The winning plant receives one extra vacation day, the runner-up gets one-half day, and the third-place winner receives a $25 gift certificate.
