Name: Bonnie SimonTitle: Manufacturing Manager, Headquarters Plant
Her job? Bonnie is responsible for planning, scheduling, and supervising the work of nearly 100 production employees who form the nucleus of Mack’s contract manufacturing service. Her medical-device expertise in new product development and process introduction, quality, ergonomics and operations management plays a key role in serving and growing Mack’s roster of customers in the medical marketplace.
Time at Mack: 8½ years.
Favorite Mack memory: Bonnie enjoys all of the employee appreciation dinners and other celebrations that Mack hosts for its employees. “It is important to recognize the hard work that Mack employees put into their jobs.”
Favorite part about working at Mack: Bonnie loves the security she feels at Mack. “Mack has such a diverse customer base here that there has never been a need to go international.” Having been responsible for transitioning US-based operations to Thailand, Ireland and Mexico for former employers involved in mergers and acquisitions, she has never feared that Mack would do anything similar. “I have never once regretted coming to Mack. Over the years, Mack has diversified into many different services and markets. There are so many new products and people coming through our doors — there is nothing but excitement every single day.”
Experience: Bonnie graduated from Adirondack Community College (Queensbury, N.Y.) with an associate’s degree in business administration. After, she attended SUNY Empire State College (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), where she studied business administration and economics. Bonnie joined Mack with over 20 years of medical manufacturing experience, including stints with Hudson RCI; Tyco, Inc. (Argyle, N.Y.), where she was production manager in the Tracheal Tube Operations for six years; and Mallinckrodt Medical, Inc., the world’s leading endotracheal tube manufacturer that was later acquired by Tyco.
Personal life: Bonnie grew up in the Cambridge, N.Y., area. She moved to Greenwich, where she currently lives with her husband, Jerry, who owns and operates a used car dealership in nearby Cambridge. They have been married for almost 34 years, and are the parents of three adult sons – Kyle, Eric and Isaac – who all live locally. They have one grandson and two granddaughters. When not at work: Bonnie enjoys gardening, decorating and her family. “Every other second, I’m with my grandchildren. I’ve been blessed to be a part of their lives and really watch them grow. Being that close with your family is a very special thing.” She also spends every summer at her lake house on Lake Cossayuna, where she swims and boats daily. Her winter getaway is to a recently purchased home in Florida.

Happy Holidays!
Mack officially rang in the holidays this evening with its 13th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration at the Headquarters Plant. Some 500 Vermont employees plus their families enjoyed the action-packed event that culminated with the lighting of a 46-foot tree by Jeff Somple, President, Northern Operations, immediately followed by a 15-minute fireworks display.
“Our tree-lighting has gone green this year,” said Somple, “not only because we still have no snow, unfortunately, but also because we have replaced the 3600 incandescent tree lights with 3600 LED lights that will use almost 99 percent less power than previously, a $1600 savings.” Somple went on to thank Mack employees for a great year, and to announce that each employee would be receiving a Christmas bonus with pay checks next week, along with a holiday ham.
During the two-hour celebration, children were surprised by a visit and gifts from Santa and Mrs. Claus, along with Prancer, one of his reindeer, and Mr. Jingles, his donkey. Guests could make their own ornaments in the crafts area and stay warm by the bonfire while waiting for the tree-lighting. A DJ provided sounds of the season while a holiday meal was enjoyed by all.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of our employees, their families, our suppliers and customers a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year!” concluded Somple.
Mack Featured in Plastics Technology Magazine
Plastics Technology Executive Editor Matt Naitove visited Mack’s headquarters plant this summer, resulting in a six-page feature article that was just published in the November issue of the magazine. Naitove talks about Mack’s vertical integration of services, its quest to become ‘China-proof,’ growth in the medical manufacturing arena, diversification into other markets, and much more. Goblins, Ghouls & Ghosts
As All-Hallows Eve crept over Mack’s headquarters plant, the list of visitors grew more and more suspect. First, a ‘killer’ ghost appeared. Then, an ape, willing to “work for Quirky crates.” And a snowman, in October!
Next Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, with a complete cast of Oompa-Loompas marched right out of the Finance department, followed by none other than Mother Nature and her Weathermakers from Manufacturing!
They, along with many other good sports, took part in Mack’s annual Halloween costume and pumpkin-carving contests. Holly Betit won the award for Scariest with her bloody ‘killer’ ghost. Mike Wert, the ape, got the most laughs for Funniest. And Teresa Hutchinson won Most Original for her snowman rendition.
The winning group award went to Florence Belnap and the Finance department for Willy & the Ooompa Loompas, followed in second by Bryan Campbell and staff for the kind visit from Mother Nature and her weathermakers.
These winners were joined by Sue Bromirski, Megan Goddard and Bob Waters for Most Creative, Scariest and Funniest carved pumpkins, respectively.
Thanks to all who bewitched and bemused – it was great fun for all!
