Mack has added capacity to its medical molding cell at the headquarters plant with three new electric injection molding machines from Toshiba Machine Co., Ltd. All are 110-ton, 3.4 oz high-precision machines from Toshiba’s EC Servo Electric Series.
“This new equipment purchase represents another investment in our medical manufacturing strategy, which we originally embarked upon 10 years ago, and today represents a full third of our business,” says Jeff Somple, president, Northern Operations. “These presses have been brought on line to support the rapidly growing orthopedic segment of that business.”
Chosen for energy-efficiency and precise process control, the machines are expected to consume about 60 percent less energy than their equivalent hydraulic counterparts, according to Procurement Director Marc Colety.
The purchase takes Mack’s press total to 123 machines, ranging from 28 to 4000 tons of clamp force with barrel sizes from .6 to 800 ounces.
