ARLINGTON, Vt. (March 17, 2021) – Mack Molding, a leading custom plastics molder and supplier of contract manufacturing services, announced today the Company’s East Arlington Road facility crossed a significant safety milestone this week, reaching 1,000 days without a lost-time accident.

“This is a significant achievement,” Mack Molding President Jeff Somple said, “made only more so by the fact it happened in an environment where the team is managing both COVID risk mitigation and an increased demand for products we make for the medical and energy markets. It truly is a testament to great things the Mack team can achieve, and proof of why our employees are our most important asset.”

According to Plant Manager Bud Pagliccia, the site’s previous record was 981 days. The facility hit 1,000 days on Sunday, March 14, 2021, marking the first time the team had crossed that threshold. Employees celebrated as plant leadership made corned beef Reubens on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, which also was the 101st anniversary of Mack’s founding.

“We are the sum of our people, and when they are at their best and healthiest, so is Mack,” Pagliccia noted. “Achieving a 1,000 day safety record does not come without significant effort. It is a direct result of our coworkers’ commitment to a culture of safety and mindfulness of one another.”

Mack Cautions Vermont Residents About Spoof Calls

April 11, 2017 by Larry Hovish Leave a Comment

It has come to Mack’s attention residents in the Arlington, Vt., community have been receiving phone calls from purported solar companies, and potentially other services, that appear on caller ID to be coming from a phone number associated with Mack.

Mack is committed to being a good steward of the community, including its protection from fraud, and has alerted its phone carrier’s technical and fraud teams of the calls. It is important to note these calls are not originating from the Mack phone exchange or the Company’s network. Unfortunately, in the age of Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) it is easy for callers to deliberately falsify the information transmitted to caller ID to disguise their identity. Known as “spoofing,” this technique is often used to trick someone into giving away personal information that can be used for fraudulent activity.

Spoofing for fraudulent gain is prohibited in the U.S., which is why Mack is working with its carrier to reduce the risk of being spoofed. This activity is hard to combat, however, and the best way to defend against it is to be informed and vigilant. Never offer personal information to an unexpected caller, and if you receive a call from someone claiming to be from a familiar company or government agency hang up and call a verified number for that entity. For more information on how to protect yourself, visit www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/spoofing-and-caller-id.

Scott Curtis: Vietnam Vet Builds 42-Year Career at Mack…and Still Counting!

September 6, 2012 by Rebecca Marie Murphy Leave a Comment

Editor’s Note: Another Mack is ME! post, this series spotlights the people and personalities behind our services. Check back frequently or subscribe to the feed, as these profiles will be interspersed with news updates on a regular basis. We hope you’ll enjoy getting to know us!

Scott Curtis, Senior Technician

Scott Curtis, Senior Technician, is a specialist at molding large industrial battery cases.

Name: Scott Curtis

Title: Senior Technician, East Arlington Plant

What does that mean? Technicians are the masterminds behind starting up the injection molding presses. Whenever a new tool comes in, molding technicians “debug” it. They figure out what times and temperatures are needed to make each part and input those parameters and more into the process control system. As a senior technician, Scott is responsible for defining the process parameters required to meet each product’s specifications.

Time at Mack: Almost 43 years.

Experience: Scott spent six years in the Marine Corps after graduating high school in Arlington, Vt. He was stationed all over the world, in places such as North Carolina, the Caribbean, Vietnam, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and California. He was working toward becoming a drill instructor, but after the Vietnam War, decided to leave the service. Scott joined the Mack team when he returned to Vermont, and has since become a 40+-year veteran of the East Arlington plant’s molding department. Starting as a press operator, Scott was eventually promoted to molding supervisor, and now, senior technician.

Favorite Mack project: Several years ago, a customer asked Mack to make 50 parts for a frame. However, the mold wasn’t ready to run when it arrived at Mack. Scott and his team worked around the clock to get the parts out the door the next day so as not to disappoint the customer. Even though it was a long day (and night!) of work, it brought the Mack team together and demonstrated that no task was too difficult for Scott and his fellow workers.

Personal Life: Scott is originally from Arlington, where he lived until joining the Marines. He continues to make his home there today with his wife of 43 years, Connie, who is now retired. Together, they have three adult children: one son and two daughters. His son is involved in engineering and construction; one daughter is a nurse; and the second is a housewife. Scott has eight grandchildren.

Scott Curtis, Senior Technician

Caught in Mystic, Conn., Scott’s striped bass was the biggest catch of the day (almost 43″ long)!

When Not at Work: Scott enjoys hunting and fishing near his home in Vermont. On weekends, he gets involved in various construction projects, as time allows. He enjoys building houses and additions, and has worked with several construction businesses, including his son-in-law’s. He also enjoys spending time with his family.

Fun Fact: Scott’s father worked in Mack’s Shipping and Receiving Department, so Scott has been a part of the Mack family since he was a child.
