FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ARLINGTON, Vt. (February 11, 2014) – Mack Molding, Northern Operations, realized 20 percent growth during its 2013 fiscal year, it was announced today by the company at the MD&M West Show, Anaheim, Calif. A privately held company, it is one of four divisions dedicated to providing full‐service contract manufacturing, with specialties in upfront design and development, plastics, metal, manufacturing and distribution.
“We have had a year of dramatic organic sales growth,” says Jeff Somple, president, Mack Molding Northern Operations. “And it has been diversified across many markets, which is the best kind of growth to have.
“We saw the upsurge coming and staffed for it in advance, with an emphasis on engineering and technical talent,” he adds. “Our summer college internship program has been very helpful in that regard, giving us the opportunity to make hiring selections from a pool of proven candidates. That’s a win‐win. The intern has gained a working knowledge of Mack, and over the course of a summer or two, we have certainly gotten to know them
“Mack has extended its reach into area high schools as well, hosting several ‘Made in Vermont’ days for over 90 high school juniors and seniors during the fall, followed up by workshops in several functional areas, including manufacturing, machining, sheet metal fabrication, injection molding and others. Additionally, the company is adding a technical track paid internship program this summer for graduating high school seniors with an interest in hands‐on manufacturing experience.
“More and more indicators are pointing to a resurgence in U.S. manufacturing,” notes Somple.”Shortened supply chains to minimize transportation costs, growing labor costs in China and other low‐cost economies, increasing numbers of engineering graduates in the U.S., and several other factors are considerations companies are now weighing when deciding where to manufacture their products. The last thing we want is for a lack of workers to hold up that surge. By adding new staff, home‐growing some of our own talent, and investing in new equipment and technology, we hope to position Mack for continued steady growth this year and beyond.”
Mack Molding, Northern Operations, increased its labor pool, both direct and non‐direct, by seven percent during FY’13 (ending 6/30/12). Since then, Mack has added 20 more employees, bringing the current total to 570.
